"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Guilt #mircroblogmondays
One surprising emotion I have come across is guilt. One day this past week it was overwhelming until I finally shared with our biomom how I felt. She eased my feelings quite a bit. She chose us(I STILL can't wrap my head around that) because she feels we would be the best for her child. My guilt comes from my own pain due to infertility. I understand loss, and it hurts that someone has to endure a loss in this process. One more reason I am a pro open adoption supporter. She will have access to our social media, we text and will be meeting throughout the year. I pray this will help ease her pain and make her more confident in her choice.

I can understand the guilt. I haven't had a match yet, but I still ponder over how my joy is ultimately someone else's loss. I hope too that open adoption will offer a bridge...not one that will erase the grief, but one that will offer healing and a new relationship for everyone.
It sounds like you're both helping each other though it -- another benefit of open adoption.
I can definitely understand the guilt, even though I haven't been through this. Adoption is a story of loss, and love. Everyone involved experiences or has experienced loss, but hopefully (as in your case), love too.
I can't imagine any caring person wouldn't have a whole gamut of emotions in your situation. I think you're doing a great thing with open adoption if you feel this way. You'll have a chance to keep the lines of communication open forever if you both choose so you won't have to wonder about how things are affecting each other in various stages of life. xo Good luck!
